Mottled Black Heritage Turkey

This variety of turkey was created by Kevin Porter and more information regarding how they were made can be found here.

Turkey are variety (color), not breed, so the sky is the limit if you are a genetics whiz.  Kevin Porter has also created a color calculator and that can be found here

We breed our Mottled Black for friendly temperament, good size and of course, that flashy mottle that makes them so beautiful to look at.  This variety starts quite dark, almost black as a juvenile.  They mottle more with each molt, changing dramatically once reaching a mature adult.  Slow-growing like most heritage variety livestock, they are worth the wait and make both a wonderful table bird or barnyard addition.  This variety does not currently breed true, meaning you will occasionally get a Royal Palm or a Marbled Black or Silver in a hatch from our eggs.  We hope to improve the variety and eventually get them to breed true as our long-term project.
